Is the branch of psychology, which is mainly concerned with the study of the unconscious psychic processes of man.
Highly characteristic of depth psychology is the insight that human behavior is not only determined by the conscious choices in life, but is always co-determined by feelings and tendencies of an instinctive nature, which are largely unconscious to the acting human being himself.
The valuable insights of depth psychology have a practical application in the so-called analytic therapy.
